Low down on Peppermint Essential Oil

History:

The origin of Peppermint seems to be a mystrey from my studies. The first documented sightings of Peppermint were in dried bunches in Egypt Pyramids in 1000 B.C...doesn't really reveeal where the fresh plant came from now does it. Hmm. However, after this date we do know that is is native to Mediterranean and West Asia.

Extract:

The essential oil is extracted using the leaves and the stems of the plant and harvested in August as the flowers open.

What it's good for:

So many things but let's focus in 3 main ones shall we?

  1. Digestion: Eases stomach trouble by stimulating bile secretion and helping the muscles that lines the stomach and intestines function properly. In saying this, Peppermint has been found to beneficial for colitis, IBS,  diarrhea, nausea, vommiting, motion sickness, stomach flu and intestinal parasites.

  2. Respiratory: Peppermint essential oil has been known to be good for respiratory issues such as colds and flus because it has natural decongestant properties, as you may instinctly be able to tell when you get a wiff of that nose clearing smell.

  3. Positive Vibes: Peppermint is known to open up the sensory system and be wonderfully purifying, stimulating and energizing to the mind. Which is one of the reasons I love it for memory and concentration, shock, stress and other emotions.

Blends well with:

Rosemary. I love me some rosemary-mint blends. Yum. Also great with Clary sage, Lavender, Lemon
